This is the famous Posto 9.
It is used as a reference to identify
this spot, across from Joana Angelica
Street. This is where Fernando Gabeira
wore that infamous crochet
thong, way back in the 80's.
This spot has a tradition of counter-culture. In the 70's it was the pier, and the dunes nicknamed Dunas do Barato. In the 80's it became the gathering spot of intellectuals. Some of them, like Gabeira and Sirkis, would later become politicians. In the 90's there was the apitaço, when beachgoers started to blow whistles to warn potheads about the presence of the beach patrol (rapas). These events made headlines in all Brazilian newspapers. This spot is still a favorite with university students, artists, actors, and more open-minded people. |
