Photo by Silviano for www.ipanema.com. All rights reserved | Todos os direitos reservados Watching the fireworks from above does have its advantages. The ocean of 2 million people competes with the neverending showers, cascades and other fireworks delights. The only drawback is if you have to fight for window space with other people in your party.
Watching the fireworks from below is the other way to go. You can pick a spot on the sand, or on the streets (closed to traffic). In addition to the feeling of freedom and togetherness, you will get a very special view to Copacabana's skyline. All hotels and buildings along the beach have their lights on, each with a different party happening at the same time. Additionally, many apartments and balconies are decorated with lights, a tradition the city encourages by giving awards to the most creative displays. Photo by Silviano for www.ipanema.com. It is a great spot to stay because of the romantic surroundings. You will have a prime view to the fireworks cascades at Le Meridién, and Pedra do Leme. You are too near to appreciate the cascade at Forte de Copacabana in all its glory, though.
All beach kiosks are open, so you do not have to worry about snacks and refreshments. If you want to go for something more sophisticated, bring a bottle of chilled champange, and a couple of glasses. Even if you are alone, we are sure you will find someone to offer a sip. Photo by Silviano for www.ipanema.com. All rights reserved | Todos os direitos reservados

There may be live music, and dancing. Prices are not for everyone - some invites run as high as US$1,000 per person! Restaurants may be a more reasonably priced alternative, especially if they are a little farther away from the beach.
