Among the novelties you will find shelters at the main bus stops. You can take a regular bus to Copacabana or Downtown from here ($0.55). There are also air-conditioned buses and taxis to hail. (see getting around)
The sidewalks were also changed. Granite curbstones were replaced by cement. A strip of red concrete blocks replaced part of the black and white mosaic stones. The idea was creating an express lane for people, leaving just a narrow strip of stones near the stores for those who are window shopping at a slower speed. News in Ipanema make headlines all over Brazil. Reporters do not draw a line when it comes to getting a good story. This ellegantly clad reporter from Rede Globo climbs a shaky wooden ladder to get on top of a structure that was planted on Ipanema´s Bar 20. All in the line of duty.

Crossing Visconde de Pirajá is a colorful experience. Cariocas are not the most disciplined drivers in the world. To encourage people to respect the black and white stripes, bold red and blue stripes were painted on the asphalt. Believe it or not, the gimmick worked.

A curiosity: none of the yellow and green street lights along Visconde de Pirajá stand straight.
