Meet Fred's Sister Ludmila, an Impossible Labrador

They only call me Ludmila when I misbehave, so I prefer to be called Lulu, or Lula if you don't mind. I certainly don't want to steal anyone's show, but learning from a big brother like Fred,I eventually became an expert trickster myself!

My most unbelievable - and unappreciated - stunt was learning how to open a full-sized refrigerator. I use my paws, my snout, and in a few seconds I munch down pretty much everything I want. Of course I used to do this waaay back, when I didn't know better - like last week - and they've never caught me on tape.

Living in a competitive environment, I had to learn how to keep my precious goodies away from prying eyes and noses. I became a specialist in hiding chew bones and other treats under pillows, while making the bed - in my own very special way. I keep at it until I am satisfied that everything looks neat and tidy. If anyone catches me at this moment of ultimate privacy, I have no choice but to start from scratch. Don't believe me? Watch my video!

Health Issues - Canine Epilepsy

Lulu and Fred bunking togetherWhen I was about three years old I had my first seizure. And it was a big one at that, lasting almost 15 minutes. Nobody knew what was going on, and my pet human thought I was choking on one of my rubber toys. He tried inserting his hand into my mouth, doing the Heimlich maneuver, and then basically freaked out! Lucky me there was a vet in my building, and she was quick to diagnose I was having an epileptic seizure. There was nothing to do, but wait until I came to.

When I woke up I was so dazed and confused I didn't recognize anyone for a while, and could hardly stand up. I started barking loud an long enough to wake up my whole building. I soon got started on med's to control the seizures.

My human family learned that the best thing to do when my seizures happen is to stay by my side, caress me, say soothing things, and tell me I'll be just fine in a little while. These episodes hardly ever happen now, as I am very strict about the hours to take my med's. I am not a hypochondriac - it's just that they come wrapped in a delicious roll.

This special condition has never stopped me from doing anything. I lead an active and healthy life, and I am sure that the unconditional love I feel for my family is reciprocated. If your dog has the same special needs I do, don't freak out: Do your homework! Here are some links that will help you learn more about canine epilepsy and Labradors.
